| Ride for the Child Huge Success For Immediate Release Contact: Heather Witt Office)898-5583 To recognize April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, Prevent Child Abuse Pickens County hosted the 14th Annual Ride for the Child on Saturday, April 17, 2010. This 100 mile charity motorcycle ride through the scenic foothills began with registration at BI-LO on Hwy. 123 in Easley and ended at Michael’s Pizzeria with live entertainment donated by the band Southern Exposure. “We were excited to partner again this year and end our ride at Michael’s Pizzeria. The owner Michael Hetrick was able to get a portion of the street blocked off for bike parking and to have ample space for the band to perform. explained new Director Heather Witt. “Child abuse is entirely preventable and that is the main focus of our agency” says Witt. “We had a great turnout this year with nearly 400 bikes and we were able to raise over $27,000.00. We are so grateful for the support of all the riders, volunteers and our sponsors without them this event would not be nearly the success it has grown to and we are certainly looking forward to next year’s ride!” All proceeds from Ride for the Child benefit the prevention programs of Prevent Child Abuse Pickens County. This agency has been serving families in Pickens County since 1991. Services include; WINGS (Women in Need of Guidance and Support) home visitation programs for young mothers, victim services, children’s programs, parenting classes, parent support groups, community training and more. Sponsors for this year’s ride include: Michael’s Pizzeria, Law Tigers, Muse Graphics, Bowers Emergency Services, Foothills Motorsports, Redneck Engineering, SC Telco, Kent Wool, Riverview Tavern, Blue Ridge Fest, Spinx, Publix Charities, Wal- Mart, Peoples National Bank, Sun Trust Bank, BI-LO, and The Graphic Cow.
